Structural civil and hydraulic services engaged directly by the developer
Large expanses of glazing walls, column free space and a potentially complex roof form were used by the architect to take best advantage of the special site that this building occupies.
From an engineering perspective, rationalising the free form curved roof into a structural form that was simple to build and used cost effective materials and techniques was a significant achievement on this project. This was achieved using a ply-shell structure supported on sparsely located ‘tree columns’.
For a development such as this, significant green credentials were essential and our civil and hydraulic engineers worked with Inspiring Place Landscape Architects to deliver a water sensitive landscape (including the access road) featuring vegetated swales, silt traps and erosion control.
A national and international award- winning development which continued the excellent working relationship Gandy and Roberts enjoys with the client, architect and contractor.
