Gandy and Roberts specialises in providing structural, civil and hydraulic engineering for architectural building projects. The size of our organisation combined with its depth of knowledge and resources makes us a niche practice, providing a level of service that larger and smaller organisations find hard to match.

At Gandy & Roberts we know our job inside out, and we take the time to find out what is important to you and your project. Be it a particular aesthetic, budget or buildability issue, we go out of our way to make sure our architects, developers and building contractors are well looked after and achieve the best possible result.

We understand that good engineering is not just about computer models and calculations - it is as much an art as a science. We like to be front and centre during the planning and early stages of a project to help guide our client to an optimal solution as early as possible. We spend time on site talking to our builders finding out what we made easy for them and what we could have done better. All of our staff (including our directors) maintain an active design role in the company so that the person you are dealing with at the meeting table or on the building site knows what they are talking about and is more often than not able to make an informed decision then and there.

Repeat business from established clients is the mainstay of our practice. We don’t take on a project - we take on a client, and we deliver engineering solutions for their biggest and smallest projects. We enjoy our work and we enjoy our client’s achievements, but ultimately it is the relationships that we build along the way that brings the greatest satisfaction and ensures continued success.

Gandy & Roberts is based in Hobart on the fringe of the CBD. Our office space consists of an eclectic mix of new construction and colonial era buildings, and the engineering and architectural challenges overcome in achieving the final result embodies nicely the Gandy & Roberts ethos.

We have large meeting spaces with video conferencing facilities, and multifunctional workspaces which are able to accommodate the needs of staff and clients alike. Distance is no longer an impediment to working interstate or overseas with the appropriate technology.

Technology pervades all facets of life – even the traditionally conservative construction industry is undergoing its own technological revolution. The introduction of BIM (Building Information Modelling) is both an enormous challenge and opportunity for the industry, and Gandy & Roberts has invested heavily to ensure that we remain at the forefront. We are actively seeking like-minded consultants and clients to collaborate with and fully explore the possibilities that BIM offers. We use Autodesk Revit Structure and Civil 3D to model both structural and civil projects, and have commenced implementation of Revit MEP for hydraulic services.

In addition to this, we are investigating various PIM (Project Integrated Management) solutions that we anticipate will greatly assist our ability to exchange information with clients in the future.

Gandy and Roberts is committed to quality service to our clients, providing a safe workplace and environmentally responsible practices. Our Integrated Management System meets the requirements of:

AS/NZS 9001:2008 – Quality Management System

AS/NZS 4801:2001 – OHS Management System

AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 – Environmental Management System
